All right, the main character of this movie is a puppet, but in a story that reminds me of the father and son interaction in Oshinbo which makes this movie whimsical, cute, and “a shake your head in disbelief” film type. The movie is overly cute, and very Japanese which can make or break it for viewers. While the plot was pure nonsense, the message was something that is what I saw a lot in many works/films, that no matter how superior a person may seem, there is a success somewhere with hard work and passion.
There are also cameos from Tama the Sationa Master Cat in and Karin/Kurin who apparently are famous cats in Japan for cat lovers. The live action actors are actually people who I don’t know much about, but the Taisho’s interest love interest is pretty cute. Oh and here’s another review for the movie.
What a dreadful soggy day. Weather and reality aside.
Okay I found out tonight as my friends and I made a round of bookstore hopping like always, and a sign was posted on Asahiya’s entrance, and it was saying that the store, due to circumstances was closing permanently. Their last day is on October 31, 2009. My friends and I were pretty crushed. One of my friends actually asked if it was a bad dream or not.
I also recently wrote an entry about them as well..
This feels like when they closed their location at Vanderbilt all over again.. no wonder there were having mad sales like mad. Now it would be more final.
They’re not using their point card system or not, rather – they’re not stamping any new marks. They’ll honor the stamps, if you have a full card, and then incomplete cards.. they’ll be counting each stamp as though it was $0.25 a mark.
I am wondering if Asahiya is closing for these reasons – Recession. No Sales. Competition from Kinokuniya nearby. I’ll try and see if I can take any more pictures to place up as a memory situation.
They would be having sales on DVDs/CDs toward the time of when the store is nearly closing. They cleared out a good portion of their anime sections already. My friends have been purchasing Nico dolls, Haruhi Suzumiya, and Lucky Star little figurines. There are some CLAMP in 3-D Wonderland figures available. I see trading cards, jigsaw puzzles at pretty insane prices. Some Evangelion, Bleach, Gurren Laggen accessories are still there… (sighs)
So another Japanese bookstore bites the dust. A long time ago there was four, and now with Asahiya closing, there would only be Bookoff and Kinokuniya left.
Okay, okay – as a blogger and an semi-anime one I probably should be thinking about what am I going to watch.. but I can say that this is one of the seasons where I am going to say “Huh” – and “Oh – you’re watching that?” – “I am going to watch that when I have time…”
So that is it… going to watch anime when I have time.. would I blog about -probably. Right now thinking more about Brooklyn Book Festival, fall schedule, reviewing, and NYAF coming sooner than later.
I have been kinda skimming over Fall anime blog previews, nothing is really standing out – would catch some of the series irregardless. Kairu wrote something about this Fall season being pretty bad.. but since it is his opinion.
What anime from the previews kinda interest me? None of the sequels with the exception of Darker Than Black, but even then that might take a nosedive.
From Chartfag.wordpress.com is V1. There are the newer series, that would kinda interest me.
Armed Librarians
Kimi ni Todoke
Kobato
Yumeiro Patissiere
Doramas on the other hand.. I kinda look more forward to. Oh and on the side note, checked out some episodes from Korean Drama – My Fair Lady or Take Care of My Lady with Yoon Eun Hye from Coffee Prince and Goong.
These are the series I am thinking about:
Ohitorisama
Tokyo Dogs
My Girl
Real Clothes
Untouchable
Okay this is another story I found pretty interesting. People can lose things on trains right? Well JR Railways actually has rules that regulate how much time, can items be claimed before they are sold in a public auction, at very cheap rockbottom prices. Laptops, ipods, applicants, DS….some new, and very cheap. (sighs) Wonder if the U.S. would do things like that? The only lost & found of this kinda scale is either the Grand Central Railroad one or the NYC MTA. Because if no one ever claims them, then what happens? It would be a waste of space to keep it. Hmm..
One of the news that I have been interested by is pretty gossipy, but pretty silly. It appears as though Sato Ryuta of dramas such as Rookies, Bambino, Konkatsu!, Kisarazu Cat’s Eye, and Kimi wa Petto was trying his bid to get into a Hollywood film. Recently there was a premiere of the recent X-Men film with Hugh Jackman in attendance. Sato was dressed up pretty nicely, tried to put a bid to be in the next X-Men film. I picked up this news from Japan Zone. So included with this entry is also a picture courtesy of the blog itself. Wonder if his tactics worked? It would be interesting.
On a side note, I use to like X-Men, back when the very first movie came out. Hence my interest.
