Updates.. here and there.. thinking of the mission of this blog.

October 16, 2009 4 comments

Real life.. gets so much with me.. that I am often mentally too overwhelmed or depressed to even want to update this blog…much less my xanga… my livejournal.. my other blogs…

This blog originally started because of an extra credit thing at a grad school, but since then I have been trying to find ways of improving this blog. Never really too set upon just working on this anime coverage or that Japanese coverage, but I can only hope, that I can find a niche that I can enjoy writing about, that won’t be too boring for anyone except myself.

Surely this won’t be like other more successful blogs I know, but for one I know this is my own writing.

Recently been thinking of capping twitter discussions as I see Moritheil does, but with my schedule and recapping, it would probably end up like a one day limp noodle by the time I even have the time to do something. Seems the real discussion is there, or dorama as Moritheil puts it.

Been checking out some Fall Anime, and these are what I tried so far, but dropped within one episode because of incompatible reasons:

Seitokai no Ichizon
Yumeiro Patissiere
The Sacred Blacksmith
Heaven’s Lost Property
Nogizakara Haruka no Himitsu

Trying to find more time to continue watching these, some watching with skepticism to see if I will go beyond:

Miracle Train
Nyan Koi

Kimi ni Todoke
Kobato

Kinda waiting for the dorama season to begin. Watched an episode of My Girl, and think -sobby drama, resembling Shiori Haru in some aspects. Caught up with American shows.

Anime Tattoo and a response..

Originally I was thinking about doing a post where I would list my favorite anime characters with tattoos, but that turned out to be so much like a matter of factually, top 5 post, that I got pretty discourage, so now I am changed up the idea slightly..

I have two kanji tattoos on my legs, and is always on the search for a third tattoo. A tattoo that would proclaim to the world on my admiration for anime. I recall seeing a One Piece tattoo, and that was hardcore, but would the same series be the apple of a person’s eyes later?

Yes I also see people would say of how foolish can you get an image permanently inked, but because I don’t want be able to regret it, and look at it 20 years down the road to say why I got this image that I have been thinking about it for a while now. (I imagine as soon as I got my second tattoo, I started to think.)

Now if tattoos offend you, then they do. But I happen to think that if a good tattoo is good, then it is a great work of art. I don’t mind the pain that is associated with the part of getting the tattoo done.

But then I think about it some more. While it is cute, and it is an expense, I am willing to pay. I have to also think about other factors – one If I get a third tattoo, will I be pretty ostracized from going into a sento or onsen? My current tattoos aren’t that big, or noticeable unless people look. Bathhouses, or hotsprings is something I want to be able to experience in my life.. so I do wonder.

But in terms of anime character with anime, got to say I really appreciate either Levvy’s from Black Lagoon, Yusuke and Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho‘s.

Hiroshima & Nagasaki, joint bid to compete for 2020 Summer Olympic.

October 14, 2009 2 comments

olympics

Well after Tokyo recently lost 2016 Summer Olympics bid to Rio De Janeiro, and with Chicago not even making it into the second round. I hear internet news that Hiroshima & Nagasaki will be doing a joint bid for 2020 Olympics. So hopefully their country will make it to win the bid. Historically these two cities were impacted by the atomic bomb, and their desire for the Olympics for promoting peace, perhaps their message will reach the Olympics committee.

The year 2020 has a special significance for the mayors, who serve as president and vice president of Mayors for Peace, a global group of mayors from about 3,000 cities that advocate the abolition of nuclear weapons. In April last year, the group adopted the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Protocol, which calls for the elimination of nuclear weapons by 2020.

Japanese Sports Day..Exciting perhpas thrilling even.

sports day

This weekend was Columbus Day for people in the U.S. but it is also Health and Sports Day [体育の日] (taiiku no hi) in Japan for students there. That definitely brings sportsmanship, and teamwork. Now the reason why I knew this was happening, because I have friends who are over there, and teaching – mentioned that they had a day off. Sounds interesting to me.

I have never seen something like this in the U.S. as I grew up, there was that one time I went to a senior trip for an outdoors event, but even then that was not as big as schools actually not going to be in session for class.

FYI for those not aware, check out here.

If the United States would have something like this, wouldn’t that mean that something like this can be promoted to off set the obesity rates in Fat America. They may be already doing like that for Elementary schools nowadays though.

Also you would see something like this in any anime series. I imagine that any if not all school anime would mention something like this. To my mind, one of the more memorable ones got to be either Gakuen Alice or Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

Justifying my Blogroll..

October 11, 2009 4 comments

Well I try to be an anime blogger. Sometimes I succeed in covering topics on what I want to write about in terms of anime, real life, and topics of interest, but other times I spread my writing out..among other blogs, Yoroshiku and JLHLS. However, this is my main public blog.

There are blog links, that I link up to them, and then there is never that much exchange of links. So I guess I’ll use this post to assess my reasons for following them. I use Google Reader pretty heavily, so it leaves little time for me to write, when information overload occurs.

For many reasons, originally I was including links as a reminder for myself to go and comment, as it was to follow my mental resolution to comment more, but I forgot about Twitter.. and so you can see how that resolution turned out. Also another note, I keep links of people who I know in real life.. so as to show my mental support.. Another reason this was part of my original small list of Goggle Reader blogs that I liked to keep up with.

Akiramike -I happen to like to watch Japanese doramas, so he provides reviews on doramas I may watch.

Anime Blogger Antenna- This is kinda like Anime Nano Other than an attempt to actually be included in the list, and that doesn’t seem to work.. so I will delete this link..

Anime Diet- Moritheil works here, and they do provide some interesting entries.

Anime Nano- This place links to my blog, and I occasionally go there to search for interesting anime blogs entries to read.

Aniverse – Twitter acquaintance’s blog… filled with scantily clad pictures of girls.. not really for females to look at, but meh… all right.

aya – One of my HS friends… her dorama review blog.

Azure Flame – Also forgot why I liked up here. Twitter acquaintance?

Daijoubu – Dangos! That and I do know this blogger in real life… haha…

Eric M. Chu – College friend who is a great photographer…

Eternal – Backlinking to that defunct Female Ani-bloggers link.. where I have met Gia of AnimeVice, Hinano in real life.

FuyuMaiden – Might be the same reason as Eternal, but Fuyu Maiden has got the most coverage of Shoujo anime.. >_<

Gar Gar – Same reason as Eternal or FuyuMaiden.. I mostly keep my links from back that time, because they’re the same gender in this obviously male dominated group, as well as they do continue to blog. In spite of the disorganization of that group, I had some good feelings for the female bloggers within it. So will try to support by linking.

Gargron – Okay duplicate entry..>__< Forgot why I linked here, but aniblogger?

hynavian – Ahh my Singapore friend who gets me obsessed with a lot of Facebook games.. >_< She has great pictures, and entries to check out.

JP & Hinano Ahh Hinano, a female who I have followed before her original blog went bellyup, and backlist from that defunct female ani-blogger. She’s a great person to know. I consistently follows JP and Hinano’s comments on Google Reader etc. etc. Fellow New Yorkers who actually live in the city. Great foodie recs for the Japanese lover. Also got obsessed with Pangya because of Hinano’s consistent blogging on this golfing game.

Kairu Ishimaru – Yoroshiku.. okay this was before I joined up with the blog.

Kitsune – Great blogger to know, he has commented on my blog entries, whereas I try to comment on his blog. Still working on it.. but definitely like to follow because he blogs not just on anime, but on Japanese interesting news.

moyism – Moy who I met on line at NYAF, and then at Otakon. I like his blog for the design and Moy’s an obvious fan boy for Nana Mizuki.

Omisyth- Forgot why I linked to him, but seeing his Twitter might be an indication..

Omo – Omo – Okay I heard people refer of him as an Anime Sensei. One of the most prolific/well known person via animeblogsphere that I know of. Cool enough to follow.. I tagged after him at Otakon.. ^_^

Otaku Dan -I like referring to his blog almost as much as I do with Howagirlfigures.com He has a good blog in terms of blog technology, and sharing. Also great pictures on figures, and someday just someday I’ll go nuts to taking pictures from my photo collection.. >_<

TheBigN -Met The Big N in person at Otakon this year. The blog is kinda like Yoroshiku, and I think it is a good one to follow for a more specific otaku ai culture.

Slight Review on Anime Diet’s NYAF Anime Blogger RT.. some thoughts.

October 10, 2009 4 comments

blogger-rt

Okay, this is one of last anticipated aspects of NYAF that I was waiting for. Flashback to Saturday of NYAF, in the midst of the masquerade, there was the Anime Blogger Round Table, that Moritheil of Anime Diet got video footage of. I was waiting for this since I wrote my con report, and I am sure lots of other people were waiting to see this panel. I don’t know how much words is the limit for comments, so I decided to write a blog posting here.

The panel had a multiple group of a lot of bloggers I have heard in passing, via Twitter or Press, so this shows more people than what I realize in front of my computer actually would be vying for a voice to be heard. A lot of them are successful as well.  Also it shows what type of specific niche there can be.. so you click or not.

Anime blogging meetups and gatherings are always so hard to do. Venue, time, schedule and place – so this panel was somewhat of a interesting promo-yourself and learn from others type of panel. Ego or not, different perspective and as they call it in my occupational field, the movers and shakers..are you actually known or respected by other people is another thought? Are you influential or not?

Still this is an observation to the NYAF panel. I will be recapping some questions.. and would definitely put in some random thoughts..

Why and how did you get into blogging? How many people get paid or even a press panel?

Typical introduce yourself, and with the amount of people on the panel, got to sum up your background/work in a few sentence or not. If you get paid, then that is a cushy job. Being press…  at least there is some financial relief for attending the con, when there is something to be writing or covering about in the end.

Are you a new school or old school fan?

Well that is a no brainer.  You have to be a an anime fan to be a panelist. But this shows that there are several schools of thought. Still the genre for old and new school is pretty broad. You should call this a part – if you got exposed to anime early or not, and are titles available to you or not? What is the basics of your passion? (People mentioned my tastes are old school.. but even then finding an anime blogger that is similar to the titles you see is even more needle in the haystack…)

Favorite merchandise/memorabilia

As I recall reading what a “meaning” of what Otaku is – a fan who has collections of anime good, this is a superficial question for  a comparison contest to see who has the best collection and what not..totally subjective.

Impressions of NYAF/NYCC merger for next year.. opinions.

Subjective.. people will see how it would be run for next year. But if my feelings are anything profound it would be in the line of what Vamp Vo mentioned with what he mentioned of how swamped press would be. Even thought there was basically no sleep for cons that I have attended. I was able to cover more industry news vs book buzz news… that my press covers on as well as a personal interest.  Also agree with Deb in what she mentioned of being recommended for more types of work that is out there.

Does it ever feel like you’re writing into a void/echo chamber?

Comment/dialogue being hoped for or what not.. and then this pretty much wrapped for the panel.

Panelist criteria as I heard of this panel was pretty loose, so who know what will be the next anime blogger panel I attend be like? I guess it would be as what Deb would say from what I recall of her twitter… the best thing is to have a panel/mixer.. where the panel wouldn’t be just 12 people waxing of their opinions/experiences.. rather open up the forum to mingle/network with other anime bloggers. Because in spite of this panel being interesting, like a lot of large panels, there were some panelist that over spoke others..

NYCC One Year Party Recap…

October 9, 2009 Leave a comment

Yesterday night, NYCC was hosting a one year party for next year’s NYCC at Bowlmar Lanes down near Union Square. I RSVP, and it was an venue to be at if you wanted to hear the official announcement for the first guests of honor next year. There was some free bowling, and an open bar.

There was a huge crowd there, and on the screens were screen caps of this year’s show. There was also a raffle. Everyone was with friends, so it seemed odd to be a lone person there, still the night was young.

So I mingled and moved around. Got white wine spilled on me.. and that was that. Had soda to drink for the rest of the night.

Yes the guest of honors, unless you haven’t check out the NYCC blog or the Twitters, that I saw NYCC twitter did, as well as I did myself. John Romita SR and JR of Spiderman notoriety.

I ended not getting home until near midnight.

NYCC is an event I find interesting because there are paranormal publishers there, that have books other than comic. I went to this event with the intention of doing some publicity work for JLHLS. Did some advertising.

Makes an self-affirmation as to why I prefer to be a press, than just a fan. If I was a fan, there doesn’t seem to be any point, other than gush on it, but at least if I was press – then there’s a reason for why I do somethings.

Comics unfortunately I don’t read much of – basics on the fact of the art and the length of the series. Archie is the only comic I was a slight fan of.

Still I got to meet hang out with some friends, meet an awesome librarian trainingto be, and bunped into a random friend on the streets of Union Square.

Google Reader.. weeding and what not..

October 6, 2009 Leave a comment

Well as I was thinking and thinking some more on what to write about on my blog, I updated my professional blog, and now this. I am probably going to weed through my feeds soon..

1-Because it is not compatible with Google Reader.. do you realize how annoying it is to see this icon every time? As I skim through my Google Readers.. there are so many other blogs to look through. Now this is not meant to be an insult.. but yes will have to cut this type of blog out.

takeiteasy

2-This is definitely a mark against Google, and the rampant linking 0r discrediting of people who upload, and then get their images taken, however because time is definitely money, this is not so good.. well as a reader, must try and manage my time. Hm.
